The Resident Evil 4 remake introduces several environmental challenges that test your observation skills as you explore the dangerous lake region. During Chapter 4, Leon S. Kennedy must locate two distinct cave shrines to retrieve key items needed to unlock the church door. Successfully navigating these locations requires players to decipher yellow painted symbols hidden across the rocky environment.

Finding the Large Cave Shrine Location

The Large Cave Shrine is situated at the northernmost point of the lake area, accessible entirely by your motorized boat. Upon arriving at the wooden docks, you will need to follow a winding path deep into the cavern while dealing with standard Ganado threats. The cave itself is relatively linear but contains multiple vertical levels that house the clues needed to progress.

As you explore the deeper corridors, keep an eye out for glowing yellow paint splatters on the stone walls. These markings indicate the exact perspectives needed to properly align the symbols required for the central pedestal mechanism. Approaching the stone console at the end of the path marks the beginning of the interactive puzzle phase.

Solving the Large Cave Shrine Symbols

To unlock the door at this northern location, you must press three specific buttons on the stone pedestal console. The first symbol resembles a pair of curved waves facing each other, which can be spotted right next to the ladder. The second correct icon looks like three intersecting circles painted on a distant rock wall visible from the upper platform.

The final button features a symbol shaped like a stylized letter double-V pointing downward into the stone. Once you press these three corresponding inputs, the heavy stone gate will automatically slide open. Inside the small room, you can safely claim the Apostate Head, which is one half of the ultimate key object.

Navigating to the Small Cave Shrine

After finishing the northern section, steer your boat toward the small cave shrine located at the far southeastern corner of the lake. This location is much more confined than the previous cavern and features fewer enemies to distract you. However, the puzzles here rely heavily on finding the right viewing angle to make sense of fragmented paint fragments.

Walk up the wooden stairs inside the structure to find the secondary stone pedestal waiting for your input. Before interacting with the buttons, take a brief look around the immediate platforms to locate the hidden markings. The environment acts as a visual puzzle that requires you to stand in precise spots to reveal the complete icons.

Deciphering the Small Cave Symbols

The solution for this southeastern console relies on three unique geometric shapes spread around the small room. One symbol looks like a vertical line wrapped in a spiral, which is easily visible on the wall adjacent to the mechanism. Another necessary icon forms a rough representation of a three-pronged fork or trident painted across two separate wooden panels.

The final shape is a simple three-dot pattern located near the window frame on the lower level. Pressing these three icons on the interface unlocks the gate holding the Blasphemer Head securely in place. Returning to the mural altar with both heads will finally allow you to obtain the Insignia needed for the main church gates.
